September 7th Meeting

We met at David Geller‘s office (WhatCounts) to discuss locations and try to get a more defined idea of what the Camp is trying to accomplish.

It is looking more and more like David has found our location. There are still some logistics to work out (food, insurance, etc), but this is looking pretty good. Doug Dobbins was going to check out a few more places before the next meeting.

Chris Pirillo shared some valuable insights based on his experiences organizing Gnomedex. Perhaps the most valuable being a variant of Murphy’s Law: “prepare for the worst - if it can happen, it will happen”. Chris also pushed the “open” aspects of this camp, and we decided that we will not be charging admission, but rather rely on some sort of invitation system to control the numbers of attendees.

We spent some time discussing our target audience - who we want to attend the Camp. We want to bring in geeks, though not necessarily all computer programmers (biotech, aerospace, etc.). A few slogans were tossed around, but nothing really stuck.

For the next meeting, we really want to nail down a meme / slogan that sums the Camp up in a short phrase. David is going to finalize the location details and Andru is going to look into insurance.

Take a look Stuart’s notes for a more detailed account.
