Mind Camp 1 was a spectacular success!

Here’s the original page:

==What is it?==

[http://www.seattlemind.com Seattle Mind Camp]. We want to find out what happens when you put 150 of Seattle’s smartest forward thinkers together in an empty office space for a full 24 hours. A multi track confab in a huge space with breakout rooms, broadband Wi-Fi, projectors, white boards - and you.

Thoughts on Mind Camp

==When does it start?==

Saturday, November 5th, 2005 - 10 a.m. It should finish up around noon the next day.

==Where will it take place?==

Riverfront Technical Park

==Who will be there?==

Take a look at the list of Confirmed Attendees that we have so far.

==What will people be doing?==

This is a self-organizing event, so we’re not exactly sure what’s going to happen. But we have made a Session Ideas page for people to suggest potential topics. This doesn’t guarantee anyone a slot, mind you, but it gives some rough idea of how things are going to go.

Feedback Notes

==Who is organizing it?==

The event is being presented by [http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/news/about/ Gear Live Media], and organized primarily by Gear Live’s Editor-in-Chief, Andru Edwards. Additional people helping to plan are Jeff Barr, Doug Dobbins, Brian Dorsey, Brady Forrest, David Geller, Ponzi Indharasophang, Ted Leung, Justin Martenstein, Stuart Maxwell, Brian Rice, and Nancy White. Of course ultimately, it’s the participants that are really creating this conference.

==More questions==

‘’‘’‘Note’‘’: As of October 19th, Mind Camp is sold out.’‘

====Should I bring anything?====

Sure. Being that Mind Camp is an overnight event, you should wear (or bring) comfortable clothing, a sleeping bag, drinks, and some snacks. We will take care of lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast – the rest of the time, you are at the mercy of your cooler. One thing – this is an alcohol-free event.

We’re running this on a shoestring budget, so please check the Requested Equipment page to see if there’s anything in particular you might be able to bring (especially projectors). Most of all we’re counting on you to bring your projects, your ideas, and your plans to change the world.

Of course, you’re welcome to bring your laptops/desktops/tablets/PDAs/Hiptops/what have you. Keep in mind, though, that table space may be at a premium. Also, there are outlets, but you’ll want to bring your own power strips & extension cords.

====How should I tag the event?====

Please use “mindcamp1.0” for tagging your photos, links, and posts.

====Where can I share files / demos / media?====

We have set up a Box.net [http://box.net/mindcamp/ Mind Camp Filefeed]. Any and all files that attendees wish to share can be uploaded there, and anyone - attendee or otherwise - can subscribe to the Filefeed via [http://box.net/public/mindcamp/folders/90188/rss.xml RSS]. Of course, there are also photo-sharing sites and so forth; please use the recommended tag so everyone can find your content.

====What else should I know?====

* Please plan to arrive by 10 a.m. Saturday morning. We’ll start introductions promptly at 10:30.
* Please bring your ticket. The doors will be locked & a guard will be posted. Security will have a list of names, so you’ll need your ticket (and your name) in order to enter the building.
* Make sure you get the right directions - Google maps doesn’t show the right location when you enter the actual address of the building.
* Please feel free to use this wiki for coordination, notes, etc. We’ll also have an IRC channel: #mindcamp on irc.freenode.net.
* There will be no land line at the building, so you may need a cell phone for communication with the outside world.
* Please tag delicious, flickr, blog posts and more with mindcamp1.0

While this will be a choose-your-own-adventure event, the organizers hope that you will take away friendships, ideas, and contacts that will allow you to grow professionally and personally. Make this event what you want it and need it to be for you!

====Introductions & Sessions====

Each person will have a chance to introduce themselves to the group on Saturday morning. Since we’ve got 150+ attendees and a short time for intros, we’ve selected the following format: State your name, who you’re with, and <del>two sentences</del> <ins>three words</ins> about yourself. If each person takes 10-15 seconds for this, we’ll be able to give everyone in the room a chance to speak.

After introductions, we’ll open the grids for session sign-ups. The session format is wide open, and we imagine you already have a pretty good idea of what you’d like to talk about. Keep in mind that we’d be really happy to see panels or joint presentations. Another way to participate might be to offer to host a panel on a subject you may not know much about; then, invite others to sign up as panelists. It’s also okay to do a session that’s just about getting group input. (Let’s call it… oh, I don’t know… a ‘‘brainstorming’’ session.)

Mind Camp is an NDA-free zone. If you can’t talk about it, don’t bring it up. Likewise, if you want something kept secret, just let those around you know.
